Des pertes en vies humaines et d'importants dégâts matériels ont été signalés. Selon les services de secours, au moins 9 personnes essentiellement des enfants ont trouvé la mort dans l'effondrement de plusieurs maisons dans la capitale nigérienne.
Chaque année, les catastrophes liées aux intempéries sont signalées et de plus en plus de voix s'élèvent pour dénoncer le manque de prévisions des responsables municipaux.
Parmi les dégâts causés par les intempéries de ces derniers jours, on signale la suspension des émissions sur les deux chaînes de télévision publiques, Télé-Sahel et Tal-TV, en raison de fortes pluies qui ont inondé leur locaux à Niamey.
Une des maternités de la localité a également été endommagée par les eaux de pluies.
