En garde à vue depuis mardi dernier, 10 activistes de l’Initiative de Résurgence du mouvement Abolitionniste (IRA) en Mauritanie ont été déférés devant la justice et placés en détention provisoire vendredi soir par le juge d’instruction du tribunal de Rosso (200 kilomètres au sud de Nouakchott).
Parmi ces prisonniers Birame Ould Dah Ould Abeid, leader du mouvement et candidat malheureux à l’élection présidentielle mauritanienne de juin 2014, prix des Nations Unies (ONU) pour les droits de l’homme en 2013.
Ces militants antiesclavagistes sont accusés d’avoir « porté atteinte à l’unité et à la cohésion nationale ».
Ils avaient été arrêtés et placés en garde à vue mardi en pleine campagne « contre l’esclavage foncier» dans le Sud de la Mauritanie.
