Le Guinéen Alpha Condéétait bien parti pour succéder au TchadienIdriss Déby Itno à la présidence de l’UA, en janvier 2017.
Mais cela ne va plus de soi, car Alger s’inquiète de « l’alignement total »de Conakry sur les positions de Rabat à propos de la République arabe sahraouie démocratique (RASD). « Le Maroc ne peut conditionner son retour à l’UA à une suspension de la RASD », estime Ramtane Lamamra, le chef de la diplomatie algérienne, qui préfère à Condé le Nigérien Mahamadou Issoufou, plus modéré à ses yeux.

Outre la présidence de l’UA, la Guinée brigue le poste de commissaire aux Affaires politiques, pour lequel elle présente la candidature de Louncény Fall, ancien ministre des Affaires étrangères. Il sera opposé à Minata Samaté, ex-ministre burkinabè de la Coopération régionale.
