Les navires transportant des troupes chinoises se dirigent vers Djibouti pour mettre en place la première base militaire d'outre-mer de Pékin.
La Chine affirme que la base de soutien sera utilisée pour le maintien de la paix et l'aide humanitaire en Afrique et en Asie occidentale. Il sera également utilisé pour la coopération militaire, les exercices navals et les missions de sauvetage, a rapporté l'agence de presse chinoise.
La Chine a accru les investissements en Afrique, et a rapidement modernisé son armée ces dernières années.
